Security - ACCUSER variable

When IR posts documents, it will check for the existence of the DOS SET variable ACCUSER and if found, will move up to 12 characters of the variable value to the document header. Two fields are maintained - for the user who creates the document and also the user who last modified the document. If the ACCUSER variable is not set up these fields will contain blanks.

You need to set the variable before you go into ACCPAC.  Do not open a DOS window from within ACCPAC to make this setting.

The variable ACCUSER refers to the DOS SET variable (see DOS/WINDOWS manual).   Once set, IR will recognize the variable and will update/stamp documents with the variable contents.

To test:

  1. Go to DOS (or a DOS session) and type SET and ENTER. The variables set will be listed.
  2. Now type SET ACCUSER = ETIENNE (or whatever name you want to set the variable to) and ENTER.
  3. Type SET and ENTER. You will see the variable ACCUSER = ETIENNE listed.
  4. All IR documents now created with this machine will have ETIENNE as the ACCUSER variable.

In a networked environment it is usually possible to assign the login name to the variable at time of login to the network. I'm not sure of the NT settings but on a Novell network you will include a line "SET ACCUSER = %login_name%" in the login script. This will assign the login name to the variable.

The WIN 98 operating system HELP displays the following for the SET command:

Displays, sets, or removes Windows environment variables.

SET [variable=[string]]

variable Specifies the environment-variable name.
string Specifies a series of characters to assign to the variable.

Type SET without parameters to display the current environment variables.

Currently this field is only available for printing in the following reports:

  1. With the specification codes %E54 and %E55 in header or footer on specification documents
  2. "Print purchase order/receipt/return lists" on the "Purchase Order Reports Menu"
  3. "Print outstanding purchase orders" on the "Purchase Order Reports Menu"
